A Loaded Word
What does the word 'Leadership' mean to you? It can create a myriad of thoughts for people - experiences of bad leaders through to fantastic leaders will no doubt spring to mind. Isn’t it interesting how we remember the terrible leaders and the wonderful leaders, but never the mediocre ones..?
First, Lead Thy Self
It is easy to identify leadership qualities (or the lack thereof) in those around us, but leadership is not just about leading others. What about when we take a good hard look at the way we lead ourselves? Self-Leadership is about looking within and leading one's self, and navigating the best life you can have for yourself. It’s about taking charge of you; living your life, your way.
Draw The Map
How will you get what you want in life, if you don't know what you want out of it? Just like corporate leaders steering their team towards a clear, shared vision; YOU are the leader who must set your own direction. What you are looking for in life? What do you want? Imagine; like Dorothy, following a yellow brick road and getting to the end of the road. Looking around you realise it's not what you imagined or wanted. Imagine instead, looking back, having had a clear understanding of where you wanted to go, how you wanted to feel and then determining your own path to get there. Do you think you'd feel differently about your life? There's no denying, both paths will have challenges along the way. Setbacks are normal. Leaders have to face setbacks and re-set all of the time. Yet a good self-leader will use those setbacks as an opportunity to grow, learn and adjust the way we do things. Change is the one constant in leadership. ;)
Inspire Others To Action
The other side of leadership is about leading others. This is a position of privilege and one that I am extremely passionate about. When done well, it is magic. When not done well, it can be so damaging.
Leaders need to show up, dress up and trust the unique strengths they bring. True leaders need to be authentic. True leaders need to inspire. True leaders need to lead from the heart and head. True leaders need to develop and grow others.
Your Leadership Opportunity
So in true leadership style I am doing just that! I am very excited to be offering a weekend workshop in May. The workshop is exclusively for motivated women who are in leadership roles or who want to be in leadership roles. Through sharing my expertise and experience, I want to grow women leaders. I want women to see that we bring something different to the leadership table and it is just as valuable as our male colleagues. If this sounds like you, please join me. Learn more here.
