Get Brave, Get Real

Why "Get Brave"?

It's easy walking around with our heads planted firmly in the sand about the parts of our lives we're not so proud of. If we ignore them they'll go away, right? Only they don't go away, and left unchecked they can loom larger than they need to be and start influencing the rest of our lives in negative ways. Facing all areas of your life (not just the nice, shiny areas) takes courage, but ultimately it is worth it.

How to Get Real

Take an objective view of all the areas of your life. You might recall one of my earlier newsletters where we looked at The Wheel Of Life. This is a great starting point for looking objectively at the different facets of your life (family, work, finances, friends, health etc) and rating them according to how satisfied you are with each area.

Warts and All

There might be some things you start to see that are uncomfortable. That's ok - stay with the discomfort. Try your best not to judge yourself or the situations themselves. You may be taking 'blinkers' off that have been on for some time. Before you rush into the next step, allow yourself time to recognise all the facets of your life. Rather than frantically searching for solutions or quick fixes, simply hold your new awareness in mind. Insights will bubble up of their own accord.

Take Action

Now you've had time to really see and understand your current reality, what are you going to do about it? Are there any areas of your life that require some adjustment or attention? Change doesn't need to be drastic in order to see positive improvements. Ask yourself; what one small step can I take today to improve or enhance one area of my life? Write down the answer and do it. Then do the same thing again tomorrow.
